Current Projects

1. Improved Cook Stove

Context: Firewood for cooking costs approximately 30% of many CasaSito Scholar's family incomes and generates large amounts of smoke that can cause severe respiratory health issues over time.

Goal: Design a solution that is efficient and reduces smoke inhalation to mitigate negative health impacts and reduce firewood expenditure for the families.

Progress: 12 stoves built and in use! Continuing to iterate on stove design.

2. Water Collection

Context: Families in Guatemala often have to walk long distances with their vases to collect water for use, or depend on rain water that is consistent throughout the year. When storing water, it is also hard to maintain cleanliness of the water.

Goal: Design a solution to improve reliability of water access and cleanliness of storage for the families.

Progress: In-person needs assessment complete! Currently in design phase.
